What cause sleep apnea?
When someone has sleep apnea:
* Breathing stops many times during sleep.
* Oxygen in the blood stream decreases each time breathing stops.
* The person wakes up many times to breathe during the night.
* The result: not enough oxygen, and very poor sleep.
* Most people who have sleep apnea don’t realize it.
* The sleeping partner usually is the first to notice sleep apnea.
* Heart disease and high blood pressure can be caused by the combination of the low oxygen levels, the strenuous efforts to breathe, and the sudden, repeated awakenings throughout the night.
